This trip is for women who have read, are reading, or hope to read White Women Cry and Call Me Angry: A Black Woman’s Memoir on Racism in Philanthropy. Join me in Jamaica for 4 days and 3 nights as we explore the themes in this book, process them using somatic exercises and journaling with a local practitioner, and engage in deeply restorative healing experiences.
We begin our journey in Montego Bay, where you will spend the first night at my villa in the hills overlooking magnificent Montego Bay. The next day we will travel to Negril to enjoy the famous Seven-Mile Beach and my favorite boutique hotel on the island Skylark Negril Beach Resort. After two nights in Negril, we will return to Montego Bay to travel home or onward to other destinations for those who plan to add on to their stay.
The trip cost of $1800 includes:
On night one, a shared room at the author’s villa. Therefore, this trip can only be reserved as a pair of friends, colleagues, or family members who know each other well enough to share sleeping accommodations.
On nights two and three, a private ensuite king bedroom at Skylark Negril Beach Resort on 7-Mile Beach in Negril. Each person will have their own room (unless otherwise requested).
A box that includes items from Black-owned businesses to support your healing journey.
An opening reception and dinner on the verandah of Point of View Villa with a traditional steel band.
All transportation to and from the airport and to and from Negril in a private vehicle.
All meals throughout your entire stay. Night one and morning one meals will include both alcoholic (mimosas and rum punches) and non-alcoholic beverages.
A guided movement and journaling experience with Elizabeth, owner of True Self Centre, who will join us from Kingston.
A bath ritual that includes a luxurious and steamy soak in a tub overlooking 7-Mile Beach. Choose from one of three soaks—Release, Rapture, and Restore. The experience includes fresh seasonal fruit and a tea ritual.
A Swedish massage from one of the skilled masseuses at Skylark.
+ Arrival and Welcome Dinner
Welcome to Jamaica! You will be met at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) by our driver, who will take you to Point of View Villa, my home on the island, where you will be greeted by a steel band and a rum punch or other beverage of your choice. Take in the breathtaking view of Montego Bay. After settling into your room, join me on the verandah for dinner and a book discussion.
+ Departure for Negril
Breakfast will be served on the verandah before we depart for Negril, which is a quick hour and 10 minutes away. We will drive along the coast and take in awe-inspiring views. We will pass through small towns and markets as we make our way west. We will arrive in Negril at 10 a.m. and store our luggage in the author’s room until rooms are ready. We will spend the day at the beach as we savor massages. Miss Lilly’s is Skylark’s famous restaurant serving authentic Jamaican dishes with a twist. Order right from your beach chair. The staff at this resort is bar none. At the end of the day, return to your room for a hot shower and dinner on your own or with the group.
+ Somatic Practice and Bath Rituals
Enjoy a light breakfast before joining the group in the yoga room at Skylark Beach Resort. Bring your journal and pen. Dress comfortably. Yoga mats will be provided. We will engage in movement and journaling to move healing from the intellect (book) to the body (soma). We will spend two hours in this practice before we begin our bath rituals. When you are not partaking in a spa ritual, feel free to enjoy the beach and restaurant or explore other activities such as parasailing, jet skis, etc. Dinner is on your own or as a group.
+ Closing Ritual
Before departing for Montego Bay, we will support our healing with a closing and accountability ritual. Our driver will take us to Montego Bay for departing flights or to meet onward transportation for those who may be staying for additional nights.
